Family tradition

In my legal practice and other professional activities, I proudly continue family traditions.

In my work, I draw inspiration primarily from my father JUDr. Zdeněk Karabec, CSc., who, after studying at the University of Cambridge and working for many years as a researcher at the Institute for Criminology and Social Prevention, worked as the Director General of the Prison Service of the Czech Republic from 1990 to 1994 and also served on committees of the Council of Europe. He published a number of professional studies, lectured at the Faculty of Law of Charles University, at the Police Academy, and was a member of the Ministry of Justice commission for the new codification of the Criminal Code and the Criminal Procedure Code.

As a recognized expert in the field of criminal law, criminology, treatment of offenders, and compensation for victims of crimes, he received the Bene Meritus plaque for lifetime contribution to justice from the Minister of Justice in 2010. In 2019, I received the special award of the Minister of Justice - induction into the Hall of Fame - for my father, JUDr. Zdeněk Karabec, CSc., in memoriam, in recognition of his significant contribution to the Czech justice system in the field of prisons, criminal law, criminology, and penology.

I owe my feeling for the Czech language, my grammatical skills, as well as my sense of fair play, culture, and family values, primarily to my mother, Mgr. Milená Karabcová, a long-time and beloved professor of Czech language and literature.

I feel great pride and responsibility.

JUDr. David Karabec, MPA, LL.M.
